In Torrevieja you will two salt lakes – one is blue/green and the other is an impressive pink colour. The strange pink-purple colour of the Torrevieja lagoon is caused by pigments of the Halobacterium bacteria which lives in extreme salty environments. The main attraction for bird lovers is the flamingos where up to 2,000 can be seen during the breeding season!
